Saunders Hall Water Catchment

EWB-UH is working on this project in conjunction with Sustainable Saunders, another student organization at UH Manoa. The scope of this project is to collect stormwater runoff from the roof of Saunders Hall and store it in containers in the first floor planter area of Saunders Hall. A drip irrigation system will then be installed to water the plants in the area.

Construction will take place in two phases. The first phase will be to use the drip irrigation system as a supplemental water source for plants that are inadequately watered with the current irrigation system. The second phase will be to replace the existing system entirely with the sustainable water catchment system. The storage barrels will be used for tables/benches and/or will be painted with murals to create a student gathering area on the first floor of Saunders.

We are planning to finalize the design within the next month and have a groundbreaking ceremony at Saunders Hall on Earth Day (April 22nd.)

We are currently looking for more people to help us meet our Earth Day deadline – specifically artists and graphic designers – but there is plenty to do for anyone who is interested.
