Wa’ahila Ridge Soil Erosion Mitigation

EWB-UH plans to make the hiking and biking trails on Wa’ahila Ridge behind the UH Manoa campus more sustainable by installing water bars to divert storm water runoff from the trails and prevent further erosion of the trails. Extensive use of the trails by hikers and mountain bikers and the creation of new trails has resulted in extensive erosion in the area. In addition to the decreased quality of the trails, increased erosion and runoff decreases how much rainfall is actually received by the vegetation in this conservation area while increasing sediment pollution in nearby Manoa Stream.
